United Methodist Women (UMW)"Faith in Action"
The 2010 Atlanta Emory UMW district spiritual growth event Saturday, September 18
9:30 am until noon
Ladies! Zoe Hicks, author and United Methodist Women (UMW) president from Oak Grove will be our guide as we focus on what faith in action means. We will be inspired by the music of a trio from Grayson UMW. Light refreshments, coffee and juice will be served. It is FREE! Bring a friend! RSVP to Barbara Garrison at 770-978-3005 or garr2298@bellsouth.net by Sept. 9 if you need child care. Show your faith in action by bringing something from the Wesley Walk Wish List on September 18: Soft drinks, sport drinks, juices, 6 oz. paper cups, individually wrapped candy (nothing that will melt), and snack foods such as pretzels, peanuts, breakfast bars, chips, animal crackers. Don't forget: Sunday, September 19 both TFUMC UMW circles will meet to put together birthing kits to take to the UMCOR Sager Brown warehouse. The Wesleyan circle invites all ladies to our next meeting Monday, September 13 at 7 pm in room 206. We hope you'll join us for a special welcome and get acquainted meeting with our new "first lady," Julie Moor.
Have you dropped off school supplies for community kids? You've helped the UMW help less fortunate kids in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties (and our Children First kids at the Northlake Inn). Have you dropped off clothes and/or toiletries in the box in the Women Spirit class? You've helped the women and children at the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Kids. Have you dropped off Campbell soup labels in the office or brought a gift to the Lessons and Carols program in December? You've helped the kids at the Murphy-Harpst homes. Have you bought something at a UMW bake sale? You've supported UMW missions! Thank you! Keep reading below to learn more about the mission & work of the UMW at Tucker First. Then come join us!
PURPOSE The UMW is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and experience freedom as a whole person through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. OUR GOALS
OUR CIRCLES The Ambassadors The Wesleyan Group Each of our UMW Circles is dedicated to Christ's Discipleship of Caring through active involvement in church, community, national and international outreach for missions and through financial support for missions. Last year, the TFUMC UMW supported:
Candleburning - A Special Missions Project Tucker First's UMW also supports the North Georgia Conference UMW candleburning project. We give specific mission funds in honor or memory of someone and a candle is burned for an amount of time equal to the amount of time their given amount of money will support UMW mission work around the world. In 2007, UMW as a whole spent $18,964,865.00 in missions. So UMW missions cost:
Tucker First's UMW sent $464 to support missions through this special project. That's 12.75 minutes of missions. That may not sound like much but if you add up all the UMW circles around the world each little bit adds up!
