Take a stroll down the second floor adult education wing corridor and enjoy the glow of added lumens. The trustees completed the lighting upgrade of this corridor last September and what a difference it made! Not only did the Trustees do a great job of selecting attractive fixtures, but they choose highly energy efficient fixtures as well. Hats off to Trustees, John Mitchell and Carlyn Greene, who headed up this effort. P.S. A new paint job for these areas soon followed.
On the Administrative Office Suite Relocation front, the architectural drawings are presently being reviewed by DeKalb County. Upon issuance of a building permit, we can get to the work of construction. As we approach that time, the Trustees will be working with the Sunday School classes presently meeting in the area of the office relocation about interim classroom assignments and move plans.

Pick up the latest copy of the office suite plan in an 8 ½ X 11 format in the Church Office.

The trustees have approved three improvement/renovation projects, all under the guidance of the campus Master Plan: 1) moving the adult library, 2) expanding the bell room, and 3) moving the church reception area and administrative offices.
See the plans for these three spaces
The move of the adult library makes room for the much-needed expansion of the bell room. The move offers an added bonus of better flow in and out of the library. A double win! The move of the church offices into the wing off Jenkins Hall will allow the entire staff to be located on the same level. It will also provide a ground floor entrance to the church office and will create a larger reception/greeting area.
Project #1: Adult library move. Renovation of our new library space is complete! The new space is bright and has two entrances to improve flow. The space was turned over to Amy and her volunteers for unpacking ahead of the May 27 target date. Come and see!
Project #2: Bell room expansion: Our many bell choirs are now practicing in their expanded and renovated space. Check it out.
Project #3: Ground floor reception area and staff office moves to the wing off Jenkins Hall: Our next project will be to move staff offices and our reception area to the ground floor. This move will make it easier for people to come to the church offices (no more climbing an exterior, metal staircase). This project will not kick off until all needed funds are in hand.
Look for updates here and in our newsletter, The Trumpeter.
We're grateful to the trustees and especially to Jo Anna Becker for giving of her time and talents as the volunteer project lead for our renovation projects.

Our Beautiful Stained Glass Windows
Our stained glass windows in the Sanctuary now have a beautiful blue border so they fit the new, aluminum frames. Thanks to everyone who supported our trustees during this time-consuming project to repair our windows!

Good News! The Board of Trustees, after months of careful deliberation and evaluation of several proposals, signed a contract with Statesville Stained Glass to restore and preserve the beautiful stained glass windows in the sanctuary.
This project is priority one on the list of repairs and improvements that will be done as part of the Capital Campaign, which is still ongoing and needs your pledges and donations! This project alone is estimated to cost over $100,000.
Statesville was neither the highest nor the lowest bidder, but the Trustees felt its proposal would give us the best value for the cost. This company specializes in restoration and repair of church windows, and has designed, produced and installed stained glass products all across the United States and in many other countries throughout the world. Local projects include St. Pius Catholic School, North Springs Methodist, Peachtree Baptist, Briarlake Baptist, Roswell United Methodist, and many others. The company operates out of Statesville, North Carolina. You may check them out at the website: http://www.statesvillestainedglass.com/
Our windows are in desperate need of restoration, and each company that looked at them prior to submitting a proposal emphasized the need for prompt action. Now that a contract has been signed, Statesville plans to be on site by the end of this month. The first step is to remove one window, take measurements, gather the necessary information related to the actual construction of the building, and then conduct a thorough analysis of the extent of the problem. This step could take 2-3 weeks. If no complications are encountered beyond what was able to be determined so far (prior to window removal), then the project could be complete by Christmas.
Many thanks go to John Lukens and Paul White for the many hours they spent in evaluating the proposals. The Trustees are grateful for their knowledge and expertise in building design and construction.
Another Capital Campaign project that is ongoing and is essential to complete before some crucial improvements to the church are initiated is the completion of a Master Plan for the church campus. The Trustees contracted with CDH Partners to prepare this plan, and we hope the plan will be completed in the next few months. CDH has given us initial sketches, and is working closely with Paul White, John Lukens and the church staff to ensure that the plan meets the needs of the church both now and for decades to come.
One initial conclusion that has come out of the Master Plan process is that the office space is inadequate and needs to be moved. To that end, Paul, John and Sharon will work with CDH to discuss the redesign of Jenkins Hall and the classrooms to the west to reconfigure the space for the offices. This will allow the entire staff to be located on the same level; it will allow a ground floor entrance to the church office, and will create a reception/greeting area. This project will also require electrical re-wiring and re-plumbing. Trustees hope that the detailed plans for this project can begin as soon as the Master Plan is complete.
Other Capital Campaign projects that are pending, subject to receipt of pledges and donations, include kitchen repairs and upgrades, campus plan improvements (sidewalk repairs, repaving and striping the parking lots, upgrading the security system, etc.), repairs to the Parsonage, HVAC upgrades, and others.
At our last meeting on July 13, Trustees committed to better communicate with the congregation on the need for, and the status of, these Capital Campaign projects. So you can look forward to regular and frequent updates to the status of these projects. In addition, the minutes of the monthly Trustees meetings are going to be posted to the church website, and we will also include a summary of the meeting each month in the Trumpeter. Also, if you have any questions about the church facility, please feel free to ask one of the Trustees.
Update from the Trustees 9/1
Statesville Stained Glass was onsite July 30 and removed part of one stained glass window to study. After its initial examination, the company decided it needed to return to take out more of the window they removed to be able to complete the “forensic” investigation of the extent of the window damage, and to determine what it will take to repair and renovate the windows. The company will return on September 2 to remove more material and take some additional measurements. We are waiting for the results of this additional investigation. John Lukens and Paul White are on top of this project.
